Before the DOTA 2 that we all know and love today, in 2003 the original Dota or Defense of the Ancients was a mod game in Warcraft III: The Reign of Chaos and its sequel The Frozen Throne owned by Blizzard Entertainment. The mode made a huge impact on the industry of Esports so it deserved a game of its own.
However, in the year 2009, DOTA 2 was experiencing a downfall under Icefrog's management but Valve Corporation saw interest and potential in the game and decided to help Icefrog and create a modern sequel of the game.
Later that year they announced the creation of Dota2 and continued its popularity in the world of Esports today
The original Defense of the Ancients doesn’t have much of a difference in DOTA2 but there are some additional features in DOTA2 that the original piece doesn’t have.
